Lotus is to invest £100m in new manufacturing facilities at its Norfolk base to build a new range of sports cars.

The company, which is owned Chinese conglomerate Geely and Malaysia-based Etika Automotive, said it would begin production of the “Type 131” prototype this year.

It will take on a further 250 staff in addition to the almost 1,500 already employed by the company. Lotus will also relocate two sub-assembly plants into a combined site to boost efficiency.

Investment in the base at Hethel, along with news earlier this month that Lotus is joining forces with Renault’s Alpine performance marque to develop an electric sports car, secures the Norfolk factory’s future “into the 2030s”

Absolutely awesome news for Norfolk and its tech corridor https://www.techcorridor.co.uk/
